Book Review - The sewing book

I got this book from Homesense but I've got one linked here!

I study fashion and clothing at college, which includes pattern cutting and creating my own designs and what I could also be studying at university. I really wish I had this book when I first started at college.

It's full of tips, how to's suitable for both a total beginner or someone who has a little experience and just wants to broaden their skills or learn new things. It's a book that is easy to read and get your head around, the wording and photography is so clear. Sometimes I find that tutorials are worded in a way that just seams to confuse everything, when I'm learning new skills I'm a visual learning and like to be shown how it's done, but this is super easy to understand.

It ranges from technical bits like stitching, or button holes and zips, to pattern cutting, to sleeve and collars and loads more. It's definitely a book I would recommend on getting your hands on if you're going on to study fashion at college or if you're into making your own clothes.

Just getting through #2 - Everything happens for a reason!

Everything happens for a reason -

One of the hardest things to be mindful of
Found on Pinterest

So I didn't get into my first uni choice and actually I'm not as disappointed as I thought I was going to be! Maybe because I knew it was doomed as soon as I walked out of the interview? But It's obviously them that's going to be missing out and not me. I guess it just wasn't meant to be!

Ok so it doesn't really help out with my current life crisis, I'm terrible with major decisions ok, which you can read all about here, but at least a little of the pressure has been lifted of my shoulders, right?! That choice wasn't really the most practical one when I really think about it.

Anyway it got me thinking about the saying 'Everything happens for a reason.' I'm a strong believer in fate, what's meant to be will be and all that jazz and I honestly feel it's true. I mean there's a little more to it, but lets not get all deep and spiritual today.

When I started my first college course, I had actually planned to go to a different college altogether and then circumstances interfered and I went to my current one. I would never have met my closest friends! While I didn't actually end up liking that course, I discovered what I wanted to do with my life career wise and If I hadn't chosen to do it I would never have found out about my current one. Which actually started up the year my course finished, it was pretty superb timing and now I've found a sector that I enjoy and want to have a career in. Is that not evidence it works? It's only small ones and I could go on for hours about other examples in my life but there the most current and to topic.

My point is that things may be disappointing or not have gone as planned or the results you were hoping for. But that's ok because maybe your life was not meant to go in that direction and there is something even better waiting for you around the corner.

It's perfectly fine to mope for a little but pick yourself up and remember it's not the end of the world!

OOTD - I literally do not care!

Headband - Forever21 / Top - Forever21 / Jeans - Topshop

When I saw this top on the Forever21 website I knew I need to snap it up, it just screams me, my pals agreed. I ended up getting it in a large because it was the only size left and I just couldn't leave it behind. But I actually think it looks ok, I'm all about oversized clothing!

I finally got a turban/wrap headband thingy, I don't actually know the technical term, which I love. I always feel self concious about things like this and never know if I can pull it off, but I like it and it's perfect for both summer and winter adding a boho twist to everything!

Outfit idea for a picnic

With this lovely weather we've been having, I started thinking of picnics in the warm spring and summer. I thought I'd create a little outfit on polyvore about what I would wear!

OOTD - Elvis has left the building

Top - New look / Skirt - ASOS / Belt - ASOS / Shoes - Mums

Here is the outfit I wore when I went to the Elvis Exhibition at the 02 which you can find here more about here and find my post here

If you can fall in love with a skirt I think I've done it! If you told me any time before this year that I would be wearing a denim skirt, I'd laugh in your face. It was just never me and I always thought there was a fine line between half decent and for lack of a better word, chavvy. HOW WRONG I WAS!!

I finally managed to nab one up, they'd been sold out for months and have worn it multiple times a week since. I paired it with this basic ribbed top from new look, it's super comfy and but I think the simplicity of it and the band collar is the essence of it. I paired with my big chunky belt for both practical and fashionable reasons and kept it simple with this simple black shoes, I stole from my mums wardrobe.

Have you got a skirt like this? How have or would you style it?

Elvis at the 02

So last Wednesday I visited the Elvis exhibition at the 02, which you can find about here, with my sister and nan. My nan's a massive Elvis fan has been all her life and so it was only natural she go and I won't lie our whole family are all a little partial to a bit of Elvis Presley.

I didn't get hundreds of photos, mostly because the lightning was not fab. But here a few of my favourites and what particularly interested me. His life was pretty amazing, he had one hell of a career and it was great seeing a little more of the person so to speak. I do have to say it's amazing what people keep and give to exhibitions, there was a monopoly box, what's that about?! A particular favourite of mine were his cars, I have slight envy and looking at all his movie posters; I just love that era and style for posters!

It's not to expensive and if your an die hard or enjoy a listen to Elvis off your own accord or know some one who is. I definitely recommend it!

OOTD - We never go out of style!

Hat - Asos / Top - New look / Jeans - Topshop

I have indeed quoted Taylor Swift in my title, I am just loving her album at the moment. I definitely give it a recommend, you may surprise yourself and find you like it!

I am again wearing jeans, they're mom jeans so I've mixed it up a little. I simply paired them with this loose hippy top, perfect for the current weather! This was actually a bit of an experiment I've seen others wearing a similar look, but I was never sure about wearing two looser fitting clothing together; making it look unbalanced and just too much. But actually I love this laid back look and think I managed to put it off, I'm all about being comfortable and chilled.

I was feeling a little rubbish today but I couldn't resist going out in the beautiful weather, so me, my little brother and the rest of the family went out and explored a ruin! One of my favourite things to do look round ruins and castle, so it was worth while.

Need to know app: CITY MAPPER

This is one for you commuters or those visiting a new city and you need a little help getting around. I don't often go to London on my own or with a friend, but I always make sure I have this app ready to go for when I get there, it makes me feel less panicky and it's such a handy app.

Citymapper is basically an app that you can use for any major cities around the world to help you get around using various transport.

You simply choose the city you'll be visiting

And this page comes up, with a map of the city, and you're different option that you can do. You simply click Get me somewhere to type in where you want to go.

As you can see I recently went to the 02 to see Mcbusted and used this app to get around on the tubes.

Then it gives you you're different options, as I've only used this app for tube navigation that's just what I'm going to stick with photo wise. As you can see it has the different route options you can take with the approximate time that it'll take, you can set an arrival time which it'll choose the best route for you.

I love this app because it tells you what line you need to get, if it's North south east or west bound and how many stops there will be on that journey. It has all the detail you need for planning your trip.

It also lets you know if there are any delays or if any railways are being worked on. It's a super easy app to use, all you need is internet on your phone for it to work when on location. But that of course doesn't stop you from screenshotting the page. It's also FREE, so what excuse is there?!

Book Review - FASHION

I got this book from Homesense, so I linked to one here!

For a personal style blog and someone who studies fashion at college, it is a pretty big deal for me. I first saw this book when I first started college and used it on my very first project, but when I looked for it online it was £30. Not something I wanted to spend on something that would be used occasionally, until I went to Home Sense and there it was for only £15!

It's such a beautiful books with spectacular drawings and photography about fashion through out the years. It's full of information and there were a few things in there that didn't know, I also realised how restrictive women's wear was way back when. It's not a book that you can get your teeth into but it's great for referring too for work or as a coffee book and a general flicker.

OOTD - Woodland adventures.

Shirt - Boohoo / Jeans - Topshop / Shoes - UGG

I chose to wear this fabulous printed cropped shirt from boohoo that had this wrapped back detail with my joni jeans and Ugg moccasins. The top really makes this outfit for me, I got it for Christmas and I just really love this print.

The last few days the weather has been amazing and it looks like it's here to stay, well for the week anyway. Because it was so beautiful and actually warm, leather jacket weather I'll have you known! How could we pass up a day like this and not do something? So me, my brother and the fam went to 100 hundred acre woods, which has several trails to walk and a large park for the kids.

We explored the woods looking out for witches, goblins, demons and dragons, it was good fun. Reminded me of when I was in first and middle school playing similar games and Harry Potter, those were the best days!

What I've been up too - an Instagram Update!

Brought the Taylor Swift album, loving it! / World Book Day and Rons the Gruffalo, his costume was made by his nan too! / Such a relevant quote at the moment! / Women's international day! / I've decided I'm going to learn crocheting and this is the first goal / I went to see Mcbusted, they were so amazing! / Easter / Woodland walks!
I feel I've got some blogging mojo back, I felt a bit meh about blogging, it was becoming a chore and I was feeling completely uninspired. But after a little break I feel in a lot better place and that I actually want to blog. I have a few posts ideas lined up ready to go.

So I thought I'd do a little collection of what I got up to while I've been gone via Instagram! However looking for photos for this little post was harder then I thought, it just shows how interesting my life is not and the fact I don't take a lot of photos. I'm going to make an effort now to change this!
