Staffies the misconception

On Instagram I came across the hashtag #TypicalStaffieOwner started by AllDogsMatter a charity based in London. In which if you own a staffie or know one you post a picture under that hashtag of the true staffs not the ones portrayed by the media.

I just want to highlight now that they have not approached me in any single way. This is a subject that is so important and to close to my heart, that I feel its only natural to write about it in a blog post, after seeing this hashtag. It's what has inspired me to write the post after all.

Staffordshire Bull Terriers have this horrible reputation of being these aggressive dangerous dogs, when in fact its the complete opposite. You're probably more likely to be bitten by something small and yappy like a Jack Russell. But because staffies and similar breeds were bred to originally be used in bloodsports such as bull baiting etc,  their bite can cause damage, which is why they are picked on.  What is portrayed by the media is exaggerated they talk about them as if they're some demon dog but in reality Bad owners make bad dogs! It makes sense doesn't it that if you're an aggressive owner, a cruel owner, someone that encourages your dog to be aggressive that you transfer this on to your dog?

Maybe I'm biased in having a Staffordshire Bull Terrier myself or my dad having an English Bull Terrier who have a similar reputation. But in my experience, My Roxy dog who recently passed at 16 this month, they are the perfect family dog. They are such soft natured, loyal dogs that love to be loved. I've yet to come across a more friendly dog that lives to please. I don't think I'd ever have another breed of dog.

Dog shelters are filled with staffies (and other breeds of course) that have been abandoned, bred, treated cruelly and have needed to be rescued. Staffies are the notorious choice for dog fighting and you can buy them incredibly cheap on the internet if you know where to look. But that's a whole other post. If you're looking for a dog, go to somewhere like All Dogs Matter and the RSPCA don't just get from a random breeder. There are many dogs that are needing a loving home.

It infuriates me when people make judgements based off the breed and the look of a dog. All the time I hear about how people hate Staffies based only on what they've seen from the media, saying about how horrible and vicious they are. I've seen people cross the road and make a wide berth of us when we walked the dog, particularly with my dads English Bull terrier. I'm mentioning her because I feel they have the same reputation, judged on their face.

There is no other reason for writing this post other then it's something I feel passionate about, many a time I've got worked up over peoples throw away comments. Please don't write of Staffies just because of what you've heard from others and the media, it's not all true.

If you have a Staffie leave your stories in the comments below and leave a photo under the #TypicalStaffieOwner

20 things you might not know about me TAG

Me being a unicorn while my brother  plays photographer, enjoy!
  1. How tall are you?
5ft nothing, I'm an incredibly short 20 year old!
  2. Do you have a hidden talent? If so, what?
No, I'm incredibly boring. When I was in junior school I did pretend I could speak Parseltongue, if you ignore that it's not real and I didn't have snake, it counts right?!
  3. What’s your biggest blog-related pet peeve?
I'll follow you if you follow me spammy comments
  4. What’s your biggest non-blog related pet peeve?
I have to narrow it down to one? Faffing, faffing is incredibly annoying.
  5. What’s your favourite song?
At the moment? Taylor Swift - Shake it off, Duh! All Time? Would maybe be Sam Cooks "a Change is gunna come" or Queen "Somebody to love" to name two! It's incredibly hard to narrow it down to just one.
  6. What’s your favourite Etsy shop that isn’t yours?
I don't rely shop on Etsy but they have some incredible Crystal based shops on there
  7. What’s your favourite way to spend your free time when you’re alone?
Just chilling with a good book or listening to music
  8. What’s your favourite junk food?
    Chips of course
  9. Do you have a pet or pets? If so, what kind and what are their names?
I have a 16 year old Staffie named Roxy and my dad has a 3 year old English Bull Terrier named Frankie!

Due to writing this up a couple of weeks ago, recently my roxy dog passed away. ):
  10. What are your number one favourite nonfiction and fiction books?
Harry Potter of course. I have to admit I don't read a lot of Non-Fiction books, I read the odd autobiography etc and the occasional fashion or history book.
  11. What’s your favourite beauty product or tool?
Concealer it would be the product I'd choose if I was only allowed to use one. But then I do love Collections 24 hour extreme eye liner pen, Winged Eyeliner is life.
  12. When were you last embarrassed? What happened?
I'm always doing that awkward stranger dance, you know the one where your walking one way and they're walking the other and then suddenly your in front of each other going side to side trying to get past. It gets to the point where we're almost dancing together. This happens to me every time I'm out of the house! #awkwardgirlproblems

  13. If you could only drink one beverage (besides water) for the rest of your life, what would it be?
    Dr Pepper always!
  14. What’s your favourite movie?
Why are there some many favourite questions, I can't narrow it down to one!
Excluding Harry Potter obvs: Taken, 10 Things I hate about you, Pretty Women, Thor. They're my go to films!
  15. What were you in high school: prom queen, nerd, cheerleader, jock, valedictorian, band geek, loner, artist, prep?
I was just average, one of those that spoke with everyone, although now a days I'd probably be a nerd.
  16. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
    Australia maybe?
  17. PC or Mac?
PC I just find it far simpler and easier to use. But saying that a Mac Desktop are fab!
  18. Last romantic gesture from a crush, date, boy/girlfriend, spouse?
Lets not delve into my non existent love life.
  19. Favourite celebrity?
Favourites are so hard to narrow down to one so to name a few: Paloma Faith, Helen Bonham Carter and Dame Maggie Smith.

    All of them of course!

OOTD - Embroidered

Top - Asda // Jeans - Topshop // Thea's - Schuh // Anklets - Accesorize/Spain
First I'd like to point out how amazing is this little spot we found to take our photos, it's just perfect. I love finding little gems like these.

Secondly how gorgeous is this Embroided smock that I got from Asda, I'll say it again but supermarkets particularly have some real gems hidden amongst them. I love seeing the shocked look on peoples faces when I tell them where stuff is from. The smock does kind of make me feel like a 12 year old I've got to confess.

I simply paired it with my trusty jeans and my thea's for comfort of course, you should know by now that comfort is my priority. How cute are my anklets, the last 3 are a set I got in Duty Free before Rhodes and the 1st one was a present from my little sister. So they've pretty much been a staple since.

All these photos and hopefully a lot more to come, were shot by my pal Emma who hopes to become a fashion photographer! How fab are they? Make sure you check out her blog here!

OOTD - Searching for that perfect denim short

Top - Primark / Denim Shorts - Asos / Vans - Old

The only time I wear shorts without tights is oh holiday mainly because I can't find a pair I feel comfortable in because lets be honest bum cheeks poking out of the bottom of your shorts is not a good look. Well I'm not keen on it but each to their own.
So I made it my mission to find a pair that covered my bum and the tops of you leg just under it, mainly because I don't think thats a particularly flattering part of the body either. I think these ones from Asos do the job! I love the shredding on the front to keep them up to date with the trends at the moment. These are definitely a pair of shorts that are going to survive throughout the next couple of summers.

Book Review - #GIRLBOSS

I saved this book till last, while on holiday, because it was the one I'd been wanting to read for the longest and like I've said a holiday is the perfect time to get books you wouldn't usually read.

I had pretty high expectations from the get go, from the comments I'd seen on twitter and from other bloggers posts and I have to say it doesn't disappoint! I finished it feeling inspired, I want to be a GIRLBOSS or more so I want to be part of that Nasty Girl gang. I think a book is a success if it makes you want to get up and go and make something of yourself.

I love that she's kept it personal to her but full of those life lessons, you know the ones you hear about, the ones that you can take with you throughout all aspects of your life. I read a comment somewhere that they felt she came off as a bit braggy.

But I don't think that's the case at all, she doesn't hold back, she's honest and really just answers the questions we wouldn't feel comfortable actually asking. She's proud of the company she's built and why not?! She's gone from a shop on ebay in her own tiny place to the owner of a multi millionaire company on her own with no business background or college/uni education. Hell I'd let everyone know about that accomplishment in a completely bragging way because, well, why not?!

This is definitely a book I will keep around and refer back to, it has invaluable information from someone who got both the employer and employee experience.

If you feel you need a bit of motivation and inspiration in your life, this is definitely a book for you!

Jumpsuit - New Look (Old) / Bag - Primark / Shoes - Primark
This playsuit I've had since Christmas and for some reason it's only working its way on to the blog now and I have no idea why. It's definitely one of my favourite pieces in my wardrobe. Mainly because I have such a love for jump/playsuits and because of the gorgeous poppy print all over it.

I Keep it pretty simple when wearing this jumpsuit, just because I think it's such a gorgeous print that speaks for itself. This outfit I chose to pair it with my basket shoes and this gorgeous bag, I also got at Christmas, when outside I'd layer with a leather jacket (faux of course) or a loose cardigan.

OOTD - Summer time

Playsuit - New Look
Playsuits are so easy when its hot or your out exploring, which was the main reasoning behind this purchase. Playsuits are just so easy, accept when you need to go to the toilet but that's a whole different blog post. This one has this gorgeous tile print on that can easily be dressed up or down, I just wanted to keep this outfit casual by simply pairing it with my Thea's for ultimate comfort.

Confession time I haven't yet worn this in England because we're currently stuck between warm sun and cold winds causing confused outfits. I have worn it on holiday in Rhodes and this is exactly how I styled it for a day exploring.
